All ready for Easter!

Ryan had Friday off of school, so the three of us spent the day getting ready for Easter!  We colored eggs and made bird nests and I assembled Easter baskets while they were watching cartoons.  I'm officially ready for the big day!

We made bird nests.  We used chow mein noodles, marshmallows, and butter - just like you'd make rice krispie bars, but instead of putting them in a pan, we put them in muffin tins, and shaped a nest.

This is what the finished product looked like.  The boys were skeptical at first, but one bite and they were hooked!  YUM!!

Economics

It always amazes me how young they start kids on subjects in school now.  Kyle has been doing calculus-like problems in algebra this year as a 7th grader.  We aren't even sure how to help him with the equations!  Ryan's book report this week was on Economics.  It was great seeing him think about the concept of the cost of food and how supply and demand effects the price.  I think he really got a lot out of the lesson - I was impressed!!!

{Proud parent alert}: Ryan has been in talent development programs for both math and reading in first grade.  He is working well above his grade level in both.  He was also nominated to attend a summer math and science program - it was a huge honor to be selected.  I am so proud of the hard work he has put in this year and it never amazes me at how much his mind soaks in - he is just like a sponge.  I hope school always comes this easy and he enjoys it as much as he does now.  It truly is a blessing and makes life much easier!!!!

Ryan's School Honors

Last week was a big week for Ryan.  He came home on Monday, proud as a peacock for being selected as a Johnsville All Star!  He earned a medal, certificate, and lunch with the principal! :)  He also had his artwork selected to be displayed at a local art fair.  What an honor; we'll have to get over there this week to check it out!!!

Graduation Picture

Hard to believe this little stinker is graduating from preschool in just over a month and will then be heading to all-day, every-day kindergarten in the fall.  The last five years have went by in the blink of an eye!  In one sense, it will be a relief to have Ryan and Carter in the same school, with the same schedule.  On the other hand, I will truly miss our Thursdays and Fridays together, just me and him.  I hate to wish this time away... pause button anyone???  :)

Project

Ryan is in a Talent Development program for reading and math this year.  His project for reading class was to read a Magic Tree House book and come up with some way to tell one thing you learned from the book (it could be a diarama, video, poster, etc.).  Ryan chose to make a poster and he illustrated how a moat surrounded a castle and how you use a drawbridge to get over the moat.  He did a great job on his poster:

Day with Dad

Our daycare provider was sick this week (really, really sick) and she called Evan to come and pick up Carter at noon on Wednesday.  Even though her Mom also works with her, after being diagnosed with pneumonia, they needed to shut down the daycare for the rest of the week to try to allow Kathy a chance to rest and heal.  Carter and Dad had a great day together.  After they left Kathy's, they went to Fleet Farm and picked out a new football for Carter.  He has taken that football with him everywhere he goes, and he sleeps with it by his bed.  After shopping, they played outside all afternoon, I think you could pitch a baseball to Carter 24/7 and he would be content to bat continuously.  These kids have a serious love for sports!  And we also love the fact that the weather has been so nice - we've been outside almost every day!!!!  :)

I had a couple of orders I was able to get out today while Carter was at a playdate at his friend's.  I am bracing myself for a Mother's Day rush...I have a feeling the next month is going to go by very, very quickly!!!! :)
